Bleaching splints
White teeth with home bleaching splints
If you are looking for a safe, inexpensive, simple solution for white teeth, then a laboratory-made professional home bleaching tray is just what you need.
Method of Home Bleaching
Among the many different possibilities of tooth bleaching, the Home Bleaching Guide (transparent plastic splint) is one of the most cost-effective variants. The home bleaching method, if used correctly, is a variant of teeth whitening whose side effects and risks are within a very low and acceptable range. This splint belongs to the so-called "home bleaching" solutions because it can be used at home. It is used when the entire dental arch appears too dark and needs to be bleached. When using high-percentage bleaching gel, it is advisable to carry out the treatment under medical supervision, because bleaching agents can cause unpleasant damage to the tooth and the mucous membranes of the mouth if not used properly. The whitening of your teeth at home, should therefore always be carried out in several small steps. You should approach slowly to the desired tooth colour. The bleaching gel required for whitening is available in different concentrations. For safety reasons, you should always start with a weak concentration.
Use of bleaching trays
With a home bleaching machine the entire dental arch can be bleached in a uniform way. The laboratory-fabricated splint is made individually for each patient and it covers only the teeth, but not the gums. Before the bleaching treatment, the bleaching tray is filled with whitening gel, which usually contains hydrogen peroxide as bleaching agent. The laboratory-fabricated bleaching tray has an individual reservoir for each tooth for the right amount of bleaching gel per tooth and seals tightly around the neck of the tooth. The laboratory-manufactured home bleaching tray is then inserted overnight and can be worn for up to eight hours. Depending on the initial colouring of the teeth, it may also be sufficient to wear the splint only a few hours during the day. These treatments usually have to be repeated up to 5-10 times to achieve the desired whitening.
(Do it You self splints, which are offered in stores for small money, do not have an individual finish to the gums. Due to the lack of closure and the lack of a reservoir, the bleaching gel can run off overnight, which greatly reduces the effect and unnecessarily irritates the gums around the teeth. The treatment with standard splints from the trade takes much longer, you need much more gel and treatment is not as efficient in the long run as with an individually made splint from a dental laboratory).
To make a bleaching splint, the dental technician needs a working model, one model for each jaw you want to have bleached.
If you want to have the upper and lower jaw whitened, 2 dental impressions are required.
There are two impression taking methods to make the required working models, the analogue and the digital version
The best known analogue method is the alginate impression, which is taken in a dental practice.
Your dental impression is sent to a dental laboratory after the impression is taken, for the creation of a model. In the dental laboratory, the impressions are poured with plaster in order to obtain 1 or 2 working models, depending on your needs.
In our dental laboratory we offer you the possibility of a digital impression, the digital data are converted directly into a digital working model via a 3D printing process. As there is no danger of aspiration (swallowing or inhalation) or gagging by the impression material, this method may also be performed by a dental technician. The digital intraoral impression is harmless and much more comfortable for the patient.
COSTS
Unfortunately, statutory health insurance companies do not cover the costs of tooth whitening, as it is only a cosmetic and not a medical treatment. In any case, you should consult a dentist before the application, because it is important to know that the teeth to be bleached are free of caries and periodontosis.
In case of strong whitening, sensitive teeth and sensitive necks of teeth, it is advisable to ask a dentist or dental cosmetician for an estimate.
A dentist usually takes a fee between 300 and 600 Euros for bleaching with the plastic splint.
For a dental cosmetician, the treatment of teeth whitening with a plastic splint can usually be cheaper, it is about 200 to 300 euros.
